First of all; a short look at the history of the regal;
Reliant produced their first three-wheeled vehicle, front steered wheel
and two wheel rear drive, before the second world war, but these were only
limited production commercial vans fitted with Austin Seven engines. In
1939 they produced a similar version, but with their own engine.
In 1953 the same engine powered the first of the Regal range, the MK1 saloon.
The front suspension was their own patent and the bodywork mainly aluminium,
though some fibreglass was used. A MK2 version soon followed, and then MK3
in 1956. The MK3 was their first fibreglass bodyshell vehichle.
The MK4 soon afterwars offered wind-down windows, the MK5 of 1961 offered
more lluxury, and the MK6 - the last of the side-valve engined vehicles
- had a lengthened roof line.
In 1962 the first of the Regal 3/25 (three wheels, 25 bhp) vehicles appeared.
This was fitted with a Reliant designed and built all-aluminium 600 ccm
engine. Various models continued to the 3/30 range announced in August 1968.
For the 3/30, the engine was increased in size to 700 ccm.
Various models of van and 'Supervan', and even a pickup. have been added
to the saloon model range.
